'Points' of Interest. Shelly Bay:
safe beach, picnic areas, fishing, lots of fantastic nature walks, and not another person it sight ...

If you don't mind a bit of a walk, and you really want to get away from it all, Shelly Bay is the place. Park under the Pohutukawa trees at Anzac Bay, and a 15 minute walk over the hill will get to to a secluded spot that's great for picnics, swimming, and just lazing on the grass. No cars, no toilets, and on the day we took these photos, no people. Just magic.

You can head back the way you came, or take one of several tracks back over the hill. We recommend the long way home. Head to the opposite end of the beach to where you arrived and there's a track up the hill. You will be rewarded by some fantastic views of Matakana Island, Tauranga Harbour the Bay of Plenty and Coromandel.
